PISTACHO: Antes de comenzar, nos podrías contar un poco acerca de ti? En especial, sobre tu evolución musical?
RYAN RIOT
Soy un productor/DJ
de 28 años de Zúrich, Suiza. Si no estoy haciendo ruido, estoy trabajando para
la revista de cultura pop RCKSTR (www.rockstar.ch). Mis
padres me compraron un teclado cuando tenia 10 años y así comenzó mi carrera
musical. Empecé tocando con la noise rock band "the boarderline
personality", pero eso no salió muy bien. Por que éramos...muy malos. Después,
comencé a pinchar en fiestas indie. Entre a la música electrónica con el
movimiento new rave del 2007. Desde el 2009 soy residente de la afamada
fiesta Discodust, aquí en Zúrich, es una noche anual de la discográfica con gente
como Punks Jump Up, Fare Soldi o Jerry Bouthier.
PISTACHO: Que país fue tu
principal fuente de inspiración? Que opinas de la parte francesa de suiza?
RYAN RIOT
Es difícil decir, ya
que hoy en día la música buena viene de cualquier lado. Mis modelos a seguir
son Yokes (Francia), Punks Jump Up (UK), The Magician (Bélgica), Oliver (USA),
Alex Gopher (Francia) y otros por el estilo, que han creado un puente entre el
indie y el electro. La zona francesa de Suiza es bastante distinta a la Alemana
o la Italiana. Vivimos en el mismo país, pero no tenemos la misma mentalidad,
no gusto musical. Ellos tienen varios festivales cool en el años, pero ninguno
en mi línea de sonido.
PISTACHO: A través del
tiempo has cambiado tu estilo musical, hasta alcanzar el indie dance. Que
podemos esperar para el futuro? Piensas en innovar y crear un sonido nuevo?
Creo que me quedare
con este estilo por el momento. La escena esta creciendo y me siento feliz con
mi música.
PISTACHO: Crees que América Latina
está lista para un dj. De nueva generación como tu? Has considerado mezclar el
indie dance con el folklore latinoamericano?
RYAN RIOT
Como les comente antes,
esta creciendo y estoy seguro que hay un mercado para ella en América Latina también.
Nunca he pensado en el folklore latino en particular pero supongo que varios de
los sonidos tropicales y baleáricos tienen sus raíces allí. Puedes encontrar
varios de estos elementos en remixes míos como "You
Should Be Dancing" or "Carried Away"
PISTACHO: Ya que somos de los
Heladeros, no podías dejar de preguntarte acerca de tu sabor favorito.

Esto puede
sorprenderte un poco, pero no me gusta el helado. True story. Soy un cliché suizo,
como muchísimo chocolate.

I have
the pleasure of bringing you our INTERVIEW with Suisse DJ/Producer RYAN RIOT, along
with the exclusive GUESTMIX he has prepared for us. Ryan began his career as a
rock musician, only to deviate from that path and end un in the indie-dance
world, one which he prefers and has perfected, as you will find out when you
listen to his mix.
This man
has talent… trust me, try it out.
PISTACHO: Before we begin, could you
tell us a little bit about you? Especially about how you and your music has
evolved?
RYAN RIOT
I’m a 28-year-old producer/DJ/ from Zurich, Switzerland. If I’m
not making noise, I work for the pop culture magazine RCKSTR (www.rockstar.ch). My parents bought me a
keyboard when I was 10 and my musical "career" started with the Noise
Rock Band « The Boarderline Personality », but that didn’t went very well,
because we were kinda shit. Afterwards I started djing at Indie Parties. I came
into electronical music with the whole New Rave movement, back in 2007. Since
2009 I’m resident at the infamous Discodust party here in Zurich, an annual
label night with acts like Punks Jump Up, Fare Soldi or Jerry Bouthier.
PISTACHO: Which country is our main source of inspiration? What do
you think about the French part of Switzerland?
RYAN RIOT
Hard to
say, since there is good music coming from anywhere nowadays. My role models
are Yokes (France), Punks Jump Up (UK), The Magician (Belgium), Oliver (USA),
Alex Gopher (France) and a lot other acts, which have build a bridge between
the indie and the electro scene.
Switzerland’s
French area is pretty different from the German or the Italian part. We live in
the same country, but we don't share the mentality or the taste in music. They
have a few cool festivals every year, but none of them features my sound line.
PISTACHO: As time has passed you’ve change the style of your music,
ending up in Indie Dance. What can we expect from you in the future?
RYAN RIOT
I guess I’ll stick with it for the moment. The scene is growing
and I’m quite happy with my music.
PISTACHO: Do you think Latin America is ready for a DJ like you? Have
you ever considered mixing indie dance with Latin American folklore?
RYAN RIOT
Like said the before - it's growing and I’m sure there is a
market for in South America as well. I never thought about Latin folklore in
particular, but I guess a lot of all this tropical and Balearic sounds have
their roots there and you can find some of these elements in my remixes.
"You Should Be Dancing" or "Carried Away" for example.
PISTACHO: Our blog is called Los Heladeros, therefore we can finish the
interview without asking which is your favourite flavor.
RYAN RIOT
This might shock you a little bit – I don't like ice cream. True
story. I'm a cliché-Swiss; I eat a lot of chocolate.
